A Long Trip Across the World
We finally made it to Budapest! Our trip to get here was a long one, and I was so glad to arrive.
We started at 8:30 am with a 3.5 hour car ride to Columbus to drop my car off at my aunt’s house and get to the Columbus airport. At the Columbus airport, we almost were not allowed to take our flight. The Delta counter wanted an EU Covid vaccination card, but we can’t get an EU card because we are not from the EU. It took them quite a while (and two managers) to go through our paperwork and determine that our Consular Certificate, Police approval from Hungary, and the US vaccination cards would be sufficient. I was sweating it for a few moments and really unsure if this trip was over before it even began.
The first plane ride took us from Columbus to Atlanta, and it was so cool that they had TVs in the back of the seats so you could watch tons of different movies. Each kid watched a different movie and we didn’t even have to break out the tablets! We were in the Atlanta airport for 2 hours, just enough time to hang out and play some toys.
The flight to Amsterdam was 7.5 hours, which is a long time to be on a plane! They served dinner (which of course Ronin and Willow didn’t eat) and then we all tried to get some sleep. It is really tough to sleep in a plane, especially with kids that don’t want to sleep sitting in a chair!
Next we had an almost 4 hour layover in Amsterdam. The kids were tired, we were tired, and everyone just wanted to sleep some more. After three flight delays we finally we made it on the plane to Hungary. Then to our new home! We love how much space there is to move around and for the kids to play, but we have already been told we are too loud. I know we have loud kids, and they are used to being noisy at our house. But we have been trying to encourage them to be quieter and not run in the house. It is a work in progress.
