Capri
Today we took the boat over to the island of Capri. The boat took us from the marina in Sorrento to the Marina in Capri, and to get down to the Sorrento marina we had to walk down a million steps! You better believe we took the shuttle back up! The kids liked the boat ride over, and Willow fell asleep for part of the way. We had great views of both Sorrento and Capri from the boat.
Once on the island we went right to book a boat tour around the island. I thought it would be a smaller group on the boat, but it was still a pretty full boat with lots of people. The captain gave a running commentary during the tour, which was nice so we knew what we were seeing. We stopped at the blue grotto, but because the wait was over an hour and a half we didn’t get to go in. The grotto had only just opened because of high winds (and it was the weekend), so it was exceptionally busy. The boat took us all the way around the island and back to the marina. The older two liked this boat ride, but Willow was bored. So she tied the bow of my shirt into a million knots to ‘help me with my tie’.
We then walked around the marina and took the funicular up to the town of Capri. We walked up and down lots and lots of stairs and looked into lots of little shops, although most were way too expensive for my tastes (Gucci, Valentino, Dulce). Zoey’s favorite part of the day was looking in all the little shops, and Willow’s was riding the funicular up and down. We play ‘favorites’ every day so the kids can tell us their favorite thing we did that day. Several of the stores handmade sandals right there while the customers wait, and Ronin’s favorite part was watching the guy make sandals. He stood there for about 20 minutes fascinated with watching the shoemaker! And of course we needed another gelato break. I wanted to go to Anacapri and ride the chairlift up to the top of Monte Solaro, but we just didn’t have time for everything. I sometimes forget that we have to make sure we have a pace that a four year old can keep up with!
The boat ride back was just as fun as getting there, and Willow even got splashed a bit by the waves. We went back to the town of Sorrento for dinner, and even got a cannoli for JonPaul! He said it was just like he remembered from when he was a little kid.
