Ice Skating and Central Market

We have been wanting to go ice skating at Városliget, which is the city park, but have been waiting for a clear day so it would be warmer with the sun. Well, today was the day!

The kids haven’t gone ice skating before, and I think I have been maybe once in the last 20 years. So needless to say, it was an interesting experience! There is the big ice skating ‘castle’ on one side of the rink and the Vajdahunyad Castle on the other, so the setting was picturesque. There were a ton of people, even for a weekday morning before school is out for the break. The kids had a great time! Willow got special skates with two blades each, so she had a much easier time than Ronin or Zoey. All the kids had their fair share of falling, but Ronin by far was the winner of the kids who fell the most. He tried so hard and was much improved by the end of the two hours. Willow got bored and sat out a bit, but Zoey was on a roll and loved going around the rink. You can see by the pictures how messy the ice was, and the rink closed in the middle of the day for a few hours before opening up for the evening. We were there from around 11-1, and it was just enough time for the kids to have fun and not have too many meltdowns. They definitely want to go skating again!

The sky was so blue today! This is a rare treat because it has been so grey and cloudy most days, but the city is really beautiful when the sky is so blue. It is also much warmer when the sun is out and the wind is down, so it was a perfect day to be outside.

We then made our way to the Great Market where we looked for gifts to bring back home. Paprika gift sets, palinka, magnets, and small glass boxes with a picture of the parliament in it were our favorites. I just don’t know how all of this is coming back home with us!

We had to leave quickly because Zoey was getting the chance to zoom with her classroom during their holiday party! Her teacher took her on the laptop around to each table group where she got to talk to all the kids. This was such a great opportunity, and I am glad Zoey got to say hi to her classmates. She has difficulty knowing what to say when talking to others, and it is sometimes frustrating for me to listen to. I am trying to get her to be better at regular conversation, but it is very difficult. I think this will make it more comfortable for her to go back to the class now though, and I am glad her teacher took some time to talk with her.
