Arcade Fun
I can’t believe we are coming down to our last month in Budapest. This has been a surreal experience and one that I hope we get to do again. We are trying to do some of the little things we have wanted to be able to do before we leave here. First up—the arcade! We went to the little plaza in the Jewish Quarter where they had tons of Christmas decorations up, including some adorable tree gnomes! They also had some booths set up, but nothing too interesting.
The kids loved the arcade! We gave them each five games to play, and they made the most of it. Ronin and Zoey were disappointed they used all their games before they saw the claw game, but Willow had saved one of her coins and got a little stuffed bear keychain. Her new best friend!
From here we walked to Vörösmarty tér, where the second Christmas market is held. We walked down the Fashion Street, which was all lit up for Christmas. We couldn’t see the lights very well though because it wasn’t dark outside, just grey. It seems to be grey more often than not here during the winter. We will have to come back at night and get some pictures of all the lights when they can be fully appreciated. It got colder and colder as the day went on, and even though we had planned to get something to eat at the Christmas market we were all too cold! There are several stands with lots of food sold, but you have to eat outside and there are no heaters or fires or anything to stay warm. Instead we went to a burger/taco restaurant inside where it was nice and warm. On our way home we saw Santa and his elves, who gave us all pieces of szaloncukor, a Hungarian Christmas candy.
